GTA 6 pre-orders have reached 6.08 million in the United States, and that puts the game far ahead of every other big release at the same stage. The new figures come from the data firm Sensor Tower, which tracks digital sales across game stores.
Those pre-orders have already brought in about $594 million, and the game has not even launched. Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That is about one month away.
GTA 6 Pre-Orders by the Numbers
Here is what the data shows for US digital pre-orders only.
Total pre-orders: 6.08 million
Pre-launch revenue: about $594 million
Lead over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at the same point before release: 148 percent
PlayStation share: 74 percent
Xbox share: 26 percent
How GTA 6 Compares With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Being 148 percent ahead means GTA 6 has roughly 2.5 times as many pre-orders as Modern Warfare 2 had at the same point before its launch. Modern Warfare 2 came out in 2022 and belongs to one of the biggest shooter series in gaming. Beating that pace by such a wide margin shows how much demand Rockstar Games has built.
PlayStation Leads Xbox in GTA 6 Pre-Orders
PlayStation owns 74 percent of GTA 6 pre-orders, while Xbox holds 26 percent. By our own math, that works out to about 4.5 million pre-orders on PlayStation and about 1.58 million on Xbox.
Xbox has gained some ground. Earlier tracking in August put the split closer to 77 percent for PlayStation and 23 percent for Xbox. PlayStation still leads by a wide margin.
Why the GTA 6 Price Tag Matters
Dividing $594 million by 6.08 million pre-orders gives an average of roughly $98 per order, based on our own calculation. That fits with earlier tracking, which showed close to 90 percent of buyers choosing the $100 Ultimate Edition. A Sensor Tower analyst said at the time that he had never seen a premium edition take such a large share, because 10 to 20 percent is typical for big games.
In plain terms, most fans are not just buying the game early. They are paying the highest price on offer.
What These GTA 6 Pre-Order Numbers Do Not Tell You
These figures have clear limits, so read them carefully.
They cover only digital pre-orders in the United States. They leave out physical copies and every other country, so they do not show total global sales for GTA 6. They are also estimates built from Sensor Tower’s own panel and models. Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed these numbers.
Take-Two’s chief executive has called the early pre-order response unprecedented and astonishing. He also said the company will not claim victory until launch, because nobody knows yet how pre-orders will turn into final sales.
What Happens Next for GTA 6 Sales
Most pre-orders usually arrive in the last weeks before a game ships, according to Sensor Tower’s own analysts. That means the count could keep climbing fast as November 19 gets closer.
For a rough comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 passed 8 million pre-orders worldwide before it launched. The GTA 6 figure covers only US digital orders, so the two numbers do not match one to one. Even so, it shows how large the demand already is. Earlier this year, a Sensor Tower executive suggested GTA 6 could reach around 25 million pre-orders globally by launch, though that remains a projection.
The next major signal will be the first sales numbers after launch. Until then, GTA 6 pre-orders remain the clearest sign that this may become the biggest release in gaming history.
