About Pikachu – Full Origin and History
Pikachu is a fictional Pokémon species created for the Pokémon franchise, which began in Japan in 1996. The franchise was developed by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori for Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc. Pikachu first appeared in the Pokémon Red and Green video games for the Game Boy in Japan (released internationally as Pokémon Red and Blue).
Design & Creation:
- Pikachu was designed by Atsuko Nishida and later refined by Ken Sugimori.
- Its name comes from two Japanese words:
- “Pika” (ピカ) – a sound of electricity, like a spark.
- “Chu” (チュウ) – the sound a mouse makes in Japanese (like “squeak”).
- Pikachu’s design is based on a small, yellow electric mouse with red cheeks that store electricity and a tail shaped like a lightning bolt.
First Appearance:
- Pikachu first appeared in the 1996 Pokémon Red and Green games in Japan.
