Zach Cregger’s Weapons Receives A– on CinemaScore, Matching Classics Like Get Out

Zach Cregger’s latest horror-thriller, Weapons, has been met with critical acclaim, earning an A– rating on CinemaScore. This places it alongside esteemed horror films such as Get Out and Silence of the Lambs, which also received similar audience scores.

The film, which opened in theaters on August 8, 2025, has also performed strongly at the box office. It grossed $5.7 million during its Thursday night previews, surpassing expectations and outperforming other horror releases like Sinners and Final Destination: Bloodlines.  Early projections suggest an opening weekend gross exceeding $40 million, a significant achievement for an original R-rated horror film.

Directed by Zach Cregger, known for his previous work on Barbarian, Weapons follows the mysterious disappearance of 17 children from a small-town elementary school. The narrative unfolds through multiple perspectives, blending elements of supernatural horror with psychological thriller. The film stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong, delivering compelling performances that have been praised by audiences and critics alike.

With its strong audience reception and impressive box office performance, Weapons is poised to become a standout entry in the 2025 horror genre, solidifying Zach Cregger’s reputation as a filmmaker to watch.
